Websites for builders

Nobody picks a builder for an extension on a whim. They take their time, they look at your past work, and they want a firm that sounds like it knows what it’s doing.

A long decision, made on finished work

Somebody planning a loft conversion or a knock-through might take weeks to decide who to ask round. They may come back to your website more than once while they do.

What they want to see is work like theirs, done and tidied up. Add your past projects with a few words each, an extension here and a garage conversion there, and a photo or two from your phone.

We write each one up properly, so it reads like a job somebody can picture rather than a caption.

A firm, or just you

Plenty of builders are a team, and some are one person with good subbies. Your website speaks as the business by default, so the button says Call us.

If people ask for you by name, switch it to speak as you instead, and the buttons say your first name. You choose it on your account, and it changes straight away.

The work you take on, and the work you don’t

The builder ticks the jobs a main contractor usually takes on, from extensions and loft conversions to renovations and knock-throughs. Untick what isn’t yours and add the rest.

Some firms don’t want small repairs, and some don’t want new builds. Say so when it asks about work you’d rather turn down, and the phone stays quiet for it.

Your jobs, ticked for you

Step three of the builder starts builders with these. Keep them, untick them, or add your own.

Ticked to start with

  • Extensions
  • Loft conversions
  • Renovations
  • Garage conversions
  • Knock-throughs & RSJs
  • Kitchen & bathroom refits

On the list to add

  • New builds
  • Porches
  • Garden rooms
  • Structural repairs
  • Chimney breast removal
  • Damp proofing

The builder we made up

To show the shape of one, we made up Pickvance Building, in Wokingham, and built its website with our own builder. Its past jobs:

  • Single-storey extension, Winnersh
  • Garage made into a room, Earley
  • A terrace renovated, Wokingham
  • Brick porch, Woodley
  • Garden room at the end of the lawn, Finchampstead

Questions

We run a few vans. Does that change anything?
No. The questions are the same for a firm as for one person. Your website speaks as the business, which suits a team, and you can put an office number and a second number on it.
How do I add a job that’s just finished?
From your editor, with the photos on your phone. Send a photo of the job and we write a line about it for you to read before it goes anywhere.

How it works

Three simple steps
  1. 01

    Tell us about your business

Your trade, your town, the jobs you take on. Rough answers are fine: we do the writing.

  2. 02

    We write and build it

A website written from your answers and nothing else, laid out in one of our designs, that reads right on a phone. No logo? We’ll draw you one from your business name.

  3. 03

    You look, change, decide

Change anything, in your own words. Nothing goes live until you subscribe.
